Acai Frequently Asked Questions

How is RioLife açaí different?

RioLife açaí is naturally organic, grown wild and harvested from açaí trees in the floodplains of the Amazon river around Belem do Para. This area produces arguably the highest quality açaí in Brazil. Not only this, but the packing plant is located in the same area, so it is picked, pulped, packed and frozen within a very short period of time. From Belem it is shipped directly to Sydney. Other distributors may transport their açaí in un-refrigerated trucks for hundreds of kilometres to plants in Sao Paulo or elsewhere to be re-packed. This method of transport causes heat damage and produces a much lower quality product.

RioLife also uses only 14% and 11% fruit solid açaí pulp. 14% is the highest quality you can get outside of the Amazon region. Other distributors only use 7% and 9% (if you’re lucky). We don’t believe in distributing Brazilian water, and would rather people get what they pay for, the amazing health and energy giving properties of açaí pulp.

How often should I consume Açaí?

We eat açaí every day, not only for the health properties, but because it is just so irresistible and our bodies feel neglected if we don’t! We’ll have a Rio Bowl or smoothie for breakfast, and often a Rio juice if our energy levels are waning in the afternoon. Treat açaí as a whole food and part of your diet every day, and you will feel energised from sun up to sun down!

What is an Acai Berry?

Acai – Scientific Name: Euterpe Oleracea

Acai (pronounced Ah-Sigh-Eee) is a berry that grows on the Acai Palm Trees in the flood plains of the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil.

The Acai berry is small in size (smaller than a grape) and is dark purple in color. Acai is mostly seed, covered in a small amount of pulp. The only edible part is the pulp which makes up around 10% of the Acai Berry with 90% seed. Acai berry seeds are often used to make jewelry.

Acai is widely used in energy drinks, ice creams & sorbets, energy bars with granola, and in Brazil the pulp is eaten in a sorbet energy bowl, or drunk as a juice.

Is RioLife Acai organic?

For your assurance RioLife has third party NASAA  Organic Certification.

In fact, RioLife acai is far better than certified organic as it is wild crafted from the Amazon rainforest. The rainforest is untouched and the trees have grown naturally for thousands of years on a pesticide free island. There is no mass farming or mass production, everything is grown wild and harvested naturally by the natives, hence it is Naturally Organic. If you asked an Amazon native about pesticides they would not know what you are talking about.

What benefits can I expect from Acai?

Acai is a SuperFood and we like to think of is as the Perfect Health & Beauty Formula, packaged by mother nature under a royal purple berry.

Packed full of Antioxidants, acai “mops up” the effects of free radicals which contribute to the visible effects of aging. Free Radicals are a byproduct of our everyday life. Our modern lifestyle, drinking, smoking as well as stress and exposure to toxins tends to exacerbate them.

Many customers report feeling energised, increased vitality, regular bowel movements, more energy to get through the day and feeling clearer. Many of our customers also use it before workout or sports activity and keep telling us how amazed they are about their improved performance with RioLife Acai. Most customers say they feel the benefit immediately. Some customers also report they only need about half a teaspoon.

Do Riolife provide Fresh Acai Juice?

At this stage we only sell acai in Freeze Dried and frozen formats.

Fresh fruits & juices do not stay fresh at room temperature. They go off. If a fruit and/or juice product is stable at room temperature then is must be treated. To maintain an ambient Acai Juice (shelf stable product), the juice undergoes some processes which radically diminish the quality and value of nutrition in it.

For instance:

  • It must be highly pasteurised / heat treated
  • AND/OR It must have preservatives added
  • It must have acai added to the juice blend from powdered acai or acai frozen pulp. As these are the only formats which acai is available.
  • It will usually have gums/stabilisers/emulsifiers or other pulpy fruits & juices added

Can I make my own Acai Juice?

Certified Organic Freeze Dried Acai is versatile and economical. One can travel with it and incorporate it into virtually any recipe.

Grab a handful of your favourite fruits eg mango, rockmelon and add 1 - 3 scoops acai plus three quarters liquid (water/apple juice..) blend and serve.

(When adding Acai into straight juices - it will have some gritty bits because it is high in fibre. If you don’t like this, blend it and make a smoothie out of it)
